Mumbai: terroristen vonden hun weg via Google Earth

De terroristen die onlangs verschillende lokaties in het zuiden van Mumbai aanvielen hebben de mappen van Google Earth gebruikt om bekend te raken in de omgeving. Aldus een aantal officials die de aanvallen onderzoeken.

"Investigations by the Mumbai police, including the interrogation of one nabbed terrorist, suggest that the terrorists were highly trained and used technologies such as satellite phones and the Global Positioning System".

Google Earth ligt al een tijdje onder vuur in India, ondermeer door de oud president, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. In 2005 waarschuwde hij al dat de beschikbaarheid van gedetailleerde online mappen, zoals gebruikt in ondermeer Google Earth, gebruikt kunnen worden door terroristen.
